French and Francophone Studies Minor
The program in French and Francophone studies at Fordham is multidisciplinary in its focus and examines political, social, historical, and cultural (art, literature, film, media) practices in the French language from the medieval period to the present. With specialists in anthropology, critical theory, cognitive studies, film studies, journalism, humanitarian studies, literary studies, race studies, translation, and visual culture, and affiliated faculty in art history, English, history, medieval studies, philosophy, and women, gender, and sexuality studies, the program in French and Francophone studies is committed to preparing students to engage critically in French with the most significant ideas, issues, and questions in France and the Francophone world, whether in the past or today. The study of class, climate, colonialism, identity, gender, immigration, race, sexual preference, and their intersectionality are integral and critical parts of the curriculum in the French and Francophone studies program.
The French and Francophone studies minor consists of six core and elective courses, numbered FREN 1502 Intermediate French II and higher, to be chosen in consultation with the assigned departmental French and Francophone studies minor adviser.

This course is a prerequisite for all 3000-level FREN courses.

Two of these courses must be 3000-level FREN courses.
Courses numbered lower than 1502 will not count toward the minor. A list of courses in French can be found here.
AB and IB Credit
All courses counting towards the core language requirement and the major or the minor in a modern foreign language, literature and culture must be taken for credit and a letter grade. When AP or IB credits are awarded as equivalent to the 1502 level in a language, these credits will be applied toward the core language requirement and, as elective credits, toward graduation, but they will not be applied toward the major or the minor in that language.
Study Abroad
A maximum of two courses taken abroad for one semester and a maximum of three courses taken abroad for one year may apply toward the French and Francophone studies minor. These courses must be approved by the assigned departmental minor advisor prior to studying abroad.

Availability
The minor in French and Francophone studies is available at Fordham College at Rose Hill and Fordham College at Lincoln Center. Students in Fordham's School of Professional and Continuing Studies may minor in French and Francophone studies only if they receive the approval of their advising dean and/or department, and their schedules are sufficiently flexible to permit them to take day courses at the Rose Hill or Lincoln Center campuses.
