The middle childhood extension program builds on previous coursework in childhood education and leads to certification in teaching English language arts for grades 7–9. The program is open to persons who are completing the M.S.T. in childhood education or who already possess initial/professional certification in childhood education or provisional/permanent certification in elementary education (Pre-K–6).
In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School of Education, applicants must
- Provide evidence of teacher certification in childhood or elementary education, or concurrent pursuit of one of Fordham’s childhood education degree programs; and
- Complete or have completed 30 credits or more in English language arts, including coursework in these areas: writers of color, women writers, study of multiple genres, written composition, literary criticism/analysis, and media studies.
