Hospitality Investment and Development (Adv Cert)
The advanced certificate in hospitality investment and development provides students with both the academic and applied analysis, knowledge, and skills necessary for success in the dynamic hotel and hospitality ownership, investment, development, and finance industries. The program provides the research-based expertise and specialized skills necessary to underwrite and analyze hospitality investments, analyze hotel development projects, and support overall investment and finance decisions for such assets. The curriculum also provides a challenging framework of learning opportunities that blend the best of theoretical and applied analysis, foster experiential learning, and build strong connections to the industry. It also gives students who complete the Master of Science degree in hospitality, real estate, or real estate development an opportunity to supplement their knowledge and skills with a secondary credential in this highly specialized area.
Learning Goals
The advanced certificate in hospitality investment and development aims to provide students with the following skill set:
- Students will gain deep knowledge of the financial and investment aspects of hotel assets and be able to evaluate a hospitality enterprise for investment purposes.
- Students will gain a deep understanding of hotel development financing and investment decisions and be able to evaluate prospective investments in the hospitality industry.
- Students will understand the role of tourism markets on hotel feasibility and profitability and be able to evaluate hospitality market conditions.
Admission to the advanced certificate in hospitality investment and development is selective, with a focus on those who demonstrate career aspirations in the hospitality industry. Requirements include strong performance in attaining a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Successful candidates will represent themselves by submitting a personal statement along with a comprehensive resume or CV. A GMAT/GRE test score is not required, but may be submitted by students for consideration. The committee also considers the nature and extent of previous work with preference given to those possessing a minimum of two or more years of professional experience.
