Applied Health Informatics (Adv Cert)

The advanced certificate in applied health informatics (AHI) is an 8-month, 16-credit program for individuals who are interested in obtaining an advanced credential, but who are not able to pursue an entire master’s degree. The program is composed of the same three core courses as the M.S., as well as a capstone. The advanced certificate in AHI is ideal for professionals working in the health care sector who want a high-level, systematic understanding of electronic health care information systems.

The advanced certificate in applied health informatics provides students with a course of study that focuses on the core concepts that underpin the discipline. It offers students a sound theoretical base in health informatics, together with practical insight and experience. The program is unique in combining an international scope; business awareness; hands-on, practical course work; and input from a wide range of experienced instructors.

Other than a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) and working proficiency in the English language, the advanced certificate in applied health informatics does not have any prerequisites. Academic performance, personal statements demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate technological concepts, and strong recommendations will provide the basis of the admissions committee's decision. Standardized test scores (GMAT/GRE) are not required for the advanced certificate. The committee will also consider the nature and extent of previous work experience, including any prior healthcare experience. Candidates are not expected to know a programming language prior to applying.

The requirements of the advanced certificate are designed to ensure that every graduate will have a grasp of the most important elements of health informatics and gain applied, hands-on experience through practical exercises and assignments. As part of the advanced certificate, students must complete a Research Project/Thesis or Applied Project.
